Biography
Dr. Kevin Parks is Chief Geologist in the Strategy and Regulatory Division of the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER). The AER is a founding member and strategic partner in ICORE. He is an IWA member.
Dr. Parks is a Canadian hydrogeologist with over 30 years of geoscience experience in research, regulation, policy, and industry. He specializes in solutions to complex subsurface issues found at the intersection of water and energy development. This includes water quantity and quality challenges in assessing and regulating energy developments like shale gas, geothermal energy, oil sands, and the safe permanent subsurface closure of old oil and gas fields. As well, he works on groundwater issues such as determining sustainable yields of aquifers and linking regional groundwater flow to watershed-management plans.
Dr. Parks has held a variety of technical leadership positions the Alberta Geological Survey and the Alberta Energy Regulator, leading business units in geology, engineering, environmental science, and economics disciplines. Dr. Parks has graduate degrees in hydrogeology from the University of Alberta and the University of Calgary.
