Biography

Åsa Jonsson is the Head of the Global Water Operators’ Partnerships Alliance (GWOPA), Urban Basic Services Section, Urban Practices Branch, UN-Habitat based in Bonn, Germany. She is an urban development practitioner having held multiple positions in the UN system in capacity development and project management, including with UNESCAP in Thailand and UN-Habitat in Kenya and in Saudi Arabia. Prior to her current role at GWOPA, she served as the Head of Office and Senior Development Coordination Officer at the UN Resident Coordinators Office in Albania. She started her career with international NGOs on maternal and public health. She holds a master’s degree in urban development planning from the Development Planning Unit, University College London; a master’s in international affairs from Columbia University, New York; and a BSc in population studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
