Orientation for optimization of plant operation must cover a very broad spectrum of treatment plants and the people that operate them. In the industrialized world with well-equipped laboratories and well-trained personnel much of what follows may not apply, but in many less developed countries most or all of the suggested measures can bring significant improvements.
