What You Need to Know About Climate Risks to Water Utility Infrastructure and Assets Webinar

American Water Works Association Climate Change, Climate Risks, Water Utility Infrastructure and Assets

Target Audience

Water Utilities and people who are interested in this topic.

Description

This webinar provides information concerning the developing field of climate change vulnerability assessments for the water sector. Climate change is an issue that provokes a wide array of utility questions and management needs related to asset management, engineering design, and operational planning. Water utilities will be challenged to address climate change and extreme weather in their daily operations and in long-term planning. Consequently, there is a growing interest in how climate change impacts built infrastructure and systems that utilities use for storage, distribution, conveyance, and treatment. Utilities are going to need to evaluate how they manage and respond to the risks in the face of a new climate “normal,” and this webinar presents approaches that participants may apply to their own engineering and asset management programs.

Learning Objectives

1. Learn how climate change and extreme weather may increase the risk to built assets and infrastructure.
2. Evaluate how surveyed utilities are managing climatic risks to their assets and infrastructure.
3. Determine whether specific types of risk-management tools and processes could be of value to utility engineering and asset management programs.
