World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS) 2020

World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS) 2020 is the annual flagship event of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) (http://teriin.org) which will be held during 29-31 January 2020 in New Delhi, India, under the overarching theme, ‘Towards 2030 Goals: Making the Decade Count’. As part of the WSDS 2020, in cooperation with TERI, IWA is organizing thematic track on Achieving SDG 6 Goals: The need for circular economy approaches on 29th January, 2020.

This thematic track attempts to sustain a conversation about achieving SDG 6 of the 2030 agenda with focus on circular economy principles and use cases from various Indian Cities. Emerging economies are now at a point to change the way they think about water. The questions now requires to be framed around the good and productive use of water, how to use and reuse water?, Should the water infrastructure and services be centralised or decentralized, linear or circular? There exists potential to do things differently in these emerging areas yet the time is relatively short to create a more sustainable pathway and hence quick action is needed if one is to attempt to create a paradigm shift. This thematic track attempts to brings together various stake holders and involves a Keynote address focusing around the current status of SDG 6 and circular economy approaches needed to achieve 2030 Goals; followed by a panel discussion.

The panel discussion would focus on how appropriate technologies needs to be adopted and nature of policies that needs to be drafted to promote a more circular approach, where used-water is recycled and where nutrients and energy are recovered.
