Mr K. Syed Amir Basha is the Chief Technology Officer, Desalination & Head, Nemmelli Desalination Plant Operation, VA Tech WABAG.
Amir Basha graduated with Honours in the field of Mechanical Engineering from Madurai Kamrajar University, India. He has 24 years of rich experience in thermal & membrane desalination.
Started his carrier with Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL), India. He later served Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC), Saudi Arabia, as O&M Manger for 11 years from 1989. SWCC is the world’s largest operator of desalination plants.
He then joined the Bushnak group, Saudi Arabia, in 1999 as Director of Engineering and Projects and was elevated to Senior Vice President Position. He served Bushnak group until April 2013, wherein he was in charge of Engineering and Projects Divisions.
He is one of the very few desalination experts who are equally conversant with Design, operation & maintenance of RO plants as well as Thermal desalination plants. He has introduced several innovations in seawater desalination.
He also has to his credit several papers presented in National and International Seminars. His paper “Sustainable Wetland Using Recycled Water – A Project by Nakheel” was awarded as the Best Paper presentation by International Desalination Association in 2009 at Atlantis, Dubai.
In April 2013 he joined VA Tech WABAG. He successfully commissioned the Nemmeli 100 MLD Desalination Plant in Chennai and operating it successfully since last 6 years. He supported the commissioning of 191 MLD Al Gubrah, Oman, Seawater Reverse Osmosis Plant, by sharing his valuable experience in guiding the commissioning team.
