Water Safety Plans (WSPs) are used by water utilities and their stakeholders as a comprehensive risk assessment and risk management approach from catchment to consumer, with the aim of consistently ensuring the safety and acceptability of a drinking-water supply. WSPs are increasingly recognised by utilities and regulators to not only ensure water quality for public health but to improve operational efficiency, identify more sustainable capital investments, and potentially prepare for climate hazards.

This webinar will provide an overview of what are WSPs, and experiences that utilities have had in putting them into practice. Kizito Masinde (Programmes Officer, IWA) will provide an overview of Water Safety Plans, followed by a presentation by George Odero (Water Production Manager, KIWASCO – Kisumu, Kenya ) on the challenges, successes and lessons learned in KIWASCO’s WSP implementation.
