Dr Arash Hejazi – the new Managing Director of IWA Publishing

The International Water Association (IWA) is excited to announce the appointment of Dr Arash Hejazi as Managing Director of IWA Publishing.
With full responsibility for the leadership and development of IWA Publishing, Dr Hejazi will play a key role in meeting IWA’s goals on growing our impact, reach and sustainable commercial performance. Dr Hejazi will also be instrumental in building on IWA Publishing’s outstanding reputation within the research community and successful transition to Open Access.
With more than 25 years of experience in publishing, editorial and business management, Dr Hejazi brings with him a strong skill set to help drive our important mission forward. This experience extends from Nature Research to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society to John Wiley and Sons, from natural and medical sciences to social sciences and humanities, and from books to journals.
Dr Hejazi joins at a key point in IWA Publishing’s growth, with the recent transition of the whole portfolio of journals to Open Access.
On the appointment, Prof Peter Vanrolleghem, Chair of the IWA Publishing Board of Directors, said: “With the diversity in experiences, the warm energy and strategic insights of Dr Hejazi, we look forward to successfully pursuing the ambitious goals of our 2022-2026 Strategic Plan, cultivating and synthesizing water knowledge, and making it accessible globally to create real-world impact.”
Prof Kalanithy Vairavamoorthy, IWA Executive Director, commented: “IWA’s reputation as a global network contributing to progress on water issues all around the world continues to grow. We welcome Dr Hejazi and are confident his expertise and vision will advance the impact of the knowledge generation and dissemination achieved through our publishing activities.”

It is estimated that soon two-thirds of the world’s population may face water shortages. Science and its application through international collaboration is the most effective way to address global challenges, and I am excited to be part of this journey and contribute to the success of an organisation I truly admire.”
Dr Hejazi will join the IWA Publishing team from 1 May 2024.
