Biography

Sabena is the new Awards & Recognition Officer at IWA and is currently working on the IWA Awards for the 2016 World Water Congress & Exhibition in Brisbane, Australia. The IWA Awards recognise excellence, innovation and leadership within the water sector worldwide.

Sabena hails from Canada and has a degree in Political Science and Communications. She brings more than 10 years of experience to IWA, having worked for various Human Rights related organizations. She previously worked for the Canadian Human Rights Commission and the Centre for Research Action on Race Relations in Canada, the International Organization for Migration and UNICEF in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and different governmental agencies (Swiss and Dutch) in South Africa.

Sabena came to the Netherlands in 2013. She speaks English, French and Dutch and has an entrepreneurial spirit, having run a small catering venture, serving world cuisines, whilst providing networking opportunities to diners.
