Billy Thurston
Members Engagement Officer – Specialist Groups and Communities

Biography

Billy joined IWA in 2020 and works with the IWA Specialist Groups and other IWA communities to generate engagement and coordinate activities for knowledge-sharing and collaboration. He studied civil engineering at the University of Bristol in the UK, with a year of study at the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia in Spain, and specialised in water and environmental topics.

He has experience working on international hydropower and irrigation projects at Mott MacDonald, a global engineering consultancy, and on community water monitoring and education projects in Central Mexico for a small NGO called Caminos de Agua. Billy is especially interested in the interconnections between food, water and energy resources in a world that is increasingly challenged by climate change and population growth.

In his free time, Billy enjoys exploring nature with family, friends and pets; playing football and other sports; looking at art and taking photographs; reading about science and practicing his Spanish.
