IWA and AfWA sign Memorandum of Understanding

IWA and AfWA have renewed their commitment to promote a strategic and cooperative relationship between the two organisations by identifying areas of convergence, establishing the benefits of working in partnership for both parties and to specify areas of joint working. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on 13 September during the IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition in Copenhagen.

AfWA is a key partner for IWA, playing a crucial role for the advancement of the water sector in the African continent. IWA supports AfWA’s vision for leadership in capacity building in the water and sanitation sector in Africa and the solutions to reach the SDGs by 2030.

The shared goal will be to promote positive change through research, education, innovation, knowledge development and capacity building, ensuring a two-way exchange of knowledge and best practices through North-South and South-South collaboration.

Sylvain Usher, Executive Director of AfWA, believes that it is important to connect with multiple stakeholders in water and sanitation. It facilitates exchange of knowledge that can help to solve the issues within the African Continent. Networking events such as the regional AfWA Congress plus the IWA World Water Congress or the IWA Water and Development Congress support and satisfy the professional and capacity building needs of their membership.
