This webinar is hosted by the IWA Specialist Group on Water Reuse. It is the third webinar of a series paving the road to the 13th IWA International Conference on Water Reclamation and Reuse to be held in Chennai on 15-19 January 2023. The first episode of the “On the Road to Chennai 2023” webinar series was held on 15 February 2022, highlighting trends of potable water reuse in the United States. The second episode on 26 April 2022 focused on industrial wastewater reuse from an emerging economy perspective.

This third episode will focus on the role played by industries in water reuse. As water scarcity and droughts persist in the face of climate change, industry increasingly turns to alternative water sources and sustainable water use to save cost, meet environmental compliance, and act with social responsibility by lessening their impact on local water supply. Commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities rely on large quantities of water to perform a variety of functions, including cooling, washing, processing, conveyance, energy production, sanitation, and irrigation. By using recycled water to meet these needs—and offsetting demand for drinking water—businesses and the communities in which they operate become more resilient.

This panel of water reuse experts will explore industrial water reuse applications in North America across energy production, data centres, food & beverage, automotive, and other industries. The panel will highlight the motivations, cost-benefits, and impacts industrial reuse can have on water footprints.
