IWA-CIWEM Dual Membership

The partnership between the International Water Association (IWA) and the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) includes a dual membership for current members of either or both organisations and people who wish to become a member for the first time.

This dual membership spans both institutions’ activities and services, including professional development and qualifications, events, publications, training and policy.

In early 2019, the IWA and the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental management have launched the unique IWA-CIWEM dual membership. Our partnership with CIWEM spans both organisations’ activities and services, including membership, professional development and qualifications, events, publications, training and policy.

This is an exciting global venture which brings benefits to members of both organisations, and will enhance the growth of the number of international development opportunities for the membership. The IWA and CIWEM collaboration brings together more than 20,000 members across 139 countries to work together to resolve the greatest challenges that face our world.

The IWA-CIWEM dual membership offers an extensive suite of international events, training, publications and journals. We are engaged with international activities with young people from school years through to post graduate studies. Our accreditation of university courses is inspiring people to seek careers in the water and environmental sector and integrates academic learning with professional development. The resultant links to academia provide us with access to the latest thinking and some of the greatest minds in the water and environmental sector.

How can I become a chartered professional through the IWA-CIWEM dual membership?

IWA-CIWEM dual membership offers the possibility to become a chartered professional by applying additionally for the chartered membership via the CIWEM mechanisms.To qualify for chartered membership you need an Honour’s degree (or equivalent), depending on the registration that you are applying for. You will also need a sufficient amount of industry experience. Using the professional experience, you need to demonstrate CIWEM mandatory competence as stated on the CIWEM application website https://www.ciwem.org/application-guidanceIndividuals who want to become chartered need to apply for a chartered membership with CIWEM. Who can apply for the IWA-CIWEM dual membership?

The dual membership is designed for individuals who wish to enjoy both organisations membership. These individuals can be graduates, professionals etc.

What is the IWA-CIWEM dual membership cycle?

The IWA-CIWEM dual membership follows the calendar year beginning 1 January and expiring on 31 December each year.

If I sign up during the year, how is this calculated within the membership year cycle?

The IWA-CIWEM dual membership follows the calendar year beginning 1 January and expiring on 31 December each year. In case you sign up for the dual membership throughout the year before November of each year, the full annual membership cycle will be accounted. Starting from November each year, you can request the invoice for the following year membership subscription cycle.

I am a current IWA and/or CIWEM member. Can I become a dual member?

Yes, please email us at iwa-ciwem@iwahq.org and indicate your membership number(s) in the email.

How much are the fees for the dual membership?

As the membership fees will be administered via the London based IWA partner CIWEM, the membership fee will be billed in British Pound Sterling.

Where do I find the expiry date of my IWA-CIWEM dual membership?

You can find the expiry date of your IWA-CIWEM dual membership in your membership confirmation email.

When can I renew my IWA-CIWEM Membership?

As a dual member, you will receive a renewal invoice in October/November. The annually renewal payment is due by the 1 January.

What are the methods of payment?

The membership fees will be administered via the London based IWA partner CIWEM, the membership fee will be billed in British Pound Sterling.

You can pay online or over the phone by card, bank transfer, direct debit or send a cheque.

How long will it take to become a dual member once I have submitted my application?

Your dual membership will be activated when the process for both memberships, IWA and CIWEM, is completed. This process is a separated application process within each organisation.

Timeframe for IWA membership application process is 1 week.

Timeframe for CIWEM Membership is from 1 week to 4 months depending on the membership grade. See here for more details.
