This webinar cuts across different IWA’s initiatives, programmes and communities. It is being led by the IWA’s Inclusive Urban Sanitation Initiative and the Water Policy and Regulation Agenda, in collaboration with Eastern and Southern Africa Water and Sanitation (ESAWAS) and WHO-Regnet.

With less than seven years left to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), many countries still lack reliable data to meet the SDG targets on sanitation and wastewater. The understanding of global indicators and methodologies, as well as their integration with local and national monitoring systems, remains incomplete. However, the achievement of meaningful Inclusive Urban Sanitation at the country level is impossible without robust data systems for informed decision-making. To bridge data gaps, it is crucial to address data systems at the local service level, ensuring their integration with regulatory and national frameworks.

This integration will not only support the integrity and reliability of global monitoring systems but also enable effective decision-making processes. The webinar aims to delve into the design of public sanitation data systems to establish strong and useful local/national systems. Improving sanitation data can strengthen global systems and enable national reporting and benchmarking of progress towards SDGs and other international targets.
