Biography

Hong has been with IWA since 2009 and currently is the Regional Director for Asia & Oceania. She previously headed IWA’s Science, Practice and Policy agenda. Hong has vast experiences working with water leaders world-wide (e.g. through Specialist Groups, IWA Fellows, Strategic Council, Board of Directors, members, partners and leading experts in the water sector) to enhance the member engagement through activities, events and content products and to strengthen the strategic position and activities of IWA relating to water science and technology.

Currently Hong leads the membership engagement unit aiming at enhanced and bespoke engagement opportunities for members through sharing knowledge, promoting innovation, setting agendas and improving members’ professional development experiences and networking opportunities.

Hong holds a Doctoral Degree (Cum Laude) on Civil Engineering (hydroinformatics) from a joint program of Delft University of Technology, UNESCO-IHE and DELTARES. Hong also holds Master degrees on Hydrology and Hydroinformatics. Dr. Hong Li has a broad range of knowledge on water, science and technology, and published numerous journal papers, books and reports. Before coming to the Netherlands in 2003, Hong was working in a governmental company in China. Hong speaks Chinese and English, and some Dutch.
